Robinson writes compelling thrillers, made all the more entertaining by the way he incorporates aspects of pop culture into the action. In this one, readers will find elements of Aliens, The Matrix, and the Marvel Comics superhero Daredevil. The main character, who calls himself Crazy, has no memory of his past and feels no fear. He's imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital but manages to escape, only to wind up in the hands of a corporation apparently experimenting on humans. After injecting himself with a mysterious drug, Crazy is able to see a MirrorWorld beyond human perception, a world that manipulates mankind through fear. Knowing no fear, Crazy becomes a warrior battling between worlds. The story takes a bit to get going, but once Crazy turns superhero, the action and mystery kick into high gear. Robinson is known for unpredictable story lines, but he outdoes himself in this genre-blending whirlwind of a tale. Copyright 2014 Booklist Reviews.
