New mother Zoe Hayes is on maternity leave, taking care of baby Luke while planning her upcoming wedding to homicide detective Nick Stiles when she finds the body of a jogger, who turns out to be a government agent, on her Philadelphia patio. Complicating matters, her boss keeps trying to contact her, and her babysitter is becoming overinvolved in her family's life. When her boss is injured in a hit-and-run accident while protecting Zoe and her son, she becomes convinced that she and her family are at risk. But is it from terrorists, drug dealers, or a former patient of the Psychiatric Institute where she works as an art therapist? Zoe solves the murder while dealing with a pushy wedding planner, a puppy yet to be housebroken, her intrusive brothers-in-law-to-be, and, finally, a kidnapping. Complex characters, multiple plot twists, and plenty of suspense add up to a satisfying episode in this entertaining amateur-sleuth series. Copyright 2008 Booklist Reviews.
