Mercer museum, a 6-story concrete castle-like building, contains almost 30,000 items of daily life in America before the Industrial Revolution. Historian and archaeologist Henry Chapman Mercer (1856-1930) collected and preserved these items and built the museum to display his collections in 1916. Built between 1908-1912, Fonthill Castle was the home of Henry Chapman Mercer. Mercer built Fonthill as his home and as a showplace for his collection of tiles and prints. Due to its historic nature, Fonthill Castle has limited accessibility with steep stairs and narrow, uneven passages throughout the site.
